on the 25th May 2024 there will be the second charity football match in memory of Stephen Shrimpton held at the WW Martin stadium home of Ramsgate FC, with all funds raised going to Epilepsy Action.
This event is one close to our teams hearts as we knew Stephen personally and I had the honour of sharing a football field with “Shrimpo” on many occasions. Stephen was an outstanding footballer with great ability that was unfortunately hampered by his epilepsy, but this didn’t stop him every time he played he gave 100% and outshone most of the other players putting in some outrageous challenges and becoming every strikers nightmare.
This event is a great way to create awareness of epilepsy and how to react when someone has a seizure, as most people wouldn’t know how to react when a seizure takes place. Reece Wiggins a close friend of Stephens started these charity games to raise awareness and to raise funds for Epilepsy Action who do amazing work in giving advise and support to people living with epilepsy and their friends and family.
Stephen’s mum had this to say:
“Sadly there is not enough known about this illness, not enough support for anyone living with Epilepsy and the local emergency department are sadly not trained when dealing with patients going through episodes, sadly at times Stephen didn’t have capacity and was extremely hard work after his seizures, sadly this was sometimes overlooked and Stephens treatment was not always the best.
For Stephen this is too late but if raising awareness help’s another person and there family to not be going through what we have at times at least that is something!!!”

Last year Reece hosted a game at the WW Martin Stadium and raised over £7200 on gofund and the cash donations at the game they also raised just over £700 for the epilepsy charity. They had their team Fury’s play a selection of Stephens friends and family creating a great atmosphere and was a great way to remember “Shrimpo”
